Pressing 'publish' on a post feels like stripping down in a crowded street. You throw your words into the void, followed by an agonising re-read, tweak, and wait—met only by unnerving silence.
I can feel the unnerving silence too because this read is So Heavy. 😥 Almost everyone who loves dogs may find this mission so overwhelming… I was at a loss for words and wanted to cry. What IS the solution? More than it taking a village and mucho bucks, that is just one far away destination in need. There are needs in every country. I commend and congratulate you for your win with GOOFLES! I’m relating your mission and future success to the big G! Please keep us informed!
Ah Gundy, thank you so much for your thoughtful reflection. I agree, its overwhelming to imagine the true extent of the problem across the world, certainly relating just to dogs. Expand that to all animals and humans and the future seems bleak. But we pick a lane to try and make a difference, even if its small, and hope it touches at the very least one life and makes it better. Your comment touched me. Thank you for taking the time 💙
Beautifully articulated. Had no idea that's how they "control" dog overpopulation in Bangkok. No wonder I didn't encountered any at night. I suppose a clean image is necessary to feed the tourist addiction to that country.
Ruined my heart. I read it three times while my lab raised his head wondering where his fellow dogs were barking. Oh yes. He’s relaxing on his thick, soft bed thousands of miles from these strays. Our USA has horrors as these.
You and your lab are blessed to have each other 💙 I've not encountered strays during my travels in the US but would one day hope to help the charities already advocating for the fluffies!
I LOVED reading this!!!! I've had similar experiences in the Caribbean, having spent 15 years back and forth to Jamaica. Their stray dog problem is just like this...widespread and seemingly hopeless. I'm just putting together a dog publication as well (launching next week) and will have my Jamaica story published down the road.
You're doing an amazing thing here! And all the puppers will thank you for it!
This is the realest thing I've ever read about hitting that good old publish button:

I’m thankful daily for my Alvin and my fluffs before. Right you are rare to see strays but our shelters are overwhelming. It’s gut wrenching
